In response to the comment, there is indeed an increased chance of bias due to the less than optimal response rate (a common problem in team research). However it is worth noting that the questionnaire used in this study taps perceptions of communication between caregivers, with the emphasis not being on individual communication competencies, but on inter- personal (and inter-role) dynamics

I read with interest the article on interdisciplinary communication in the ICU.This study is limited by a response rate of 47% which the authors note is similar to other studies. However if the topic of the survey is communication is it not likely that those people with poor communication skills will be the non-responders. If this is the case there is a risk of bias within the study.
