We read with interest the article by Na et al in this issue of the BJA about landmarks for the placement of central venous cannulation in pediatric patients. However, as the exposure to ultrasound guidance is increasing, the study may have been well served with a comparative group with US-guidance. In our institution, US-guidance for central venous cannulation is the 'standard of care' . We hope that as US technology is fairly ubiquitous, this technique is used with greater frequency than pure landmark based techniques.
