Erratum
Alveolar recruitment in acute lung injury (BJA 2006; 96: 156–66)It has been pointed out to the authors that in the paragraph Inductive plethysmography on page 159, the text incorrectly implies similarity between inductive plethysmography and electrical impedance tomography. In fact, both methods are different. While inductive plethysmography is being used for monitoring of ventilation (e.g. tidal volume and respiratory rate), electrical impedance tomography yields a tomogram, e.g. graphical information about regional ventilation. So, inductive plethysmography should be substituted throughout this paragraph (including the title) by electrical impedance tomography. References 17, 68, and 94 no longer apply.
The authors apologize for the error.
