Erratum
Downward movement of syringe pumps reduces syringe output (BJA 2001; 86: 82831)
The authors would like to correct p. 830, second paragraph in our article. A conversion error occurred while transforming the infusion rate of the syringe pumps for the compliance measurements from ml h1 into µl s1. The reported compliances therefore have to be divided by 60.
Testing the compliance of the different systems resulted in identical values for the Injectomat-C and the Perfusor fm of 1.4 µl mm Hg1. The compliance of the IVAC 770 system was greater, at 1.7 µl mm Hg1. There was a statistically significant positive correlation (r2=0.863, P<0.05) between time without infusion and the compliance of the system.
This correlation has been retested and remained unchanged as suspected.
The authors apologize for this conversion error.
