THE PATTERN OF POTASSIUM LIBERATION FOLLOWING A SINGLE DOSE OF SUXAMETHONIUM IN NORMAL AND URAEMIC RATS
Departments of Anaesthetics and Surgery, University of Bristol, Southmead Hospital, Bristol, England
Changes in plasma potassium have been measured in both normal and uraemic rats following the administration of suxamethonium. The variance of these changes in uraemic animals is significantly different from that seen in normal animals. This study supports the suggestion that it may be unwise to employ depolarizing muscle relaxants during the induction of anaesthesia in recipients of renal transplants, or other patients in renal failure
